Sina Technology News Beijing time on the evening of February 27th, according to foreign media reports, Huawei Chairman Liang Hua said on Thursday that Huawei will build its first 5G manufacturing plant in Europe in France.
Earlier this month, Liu Kang, Huawei’s chief representative to the European Union, said that Huawei was selecting a site in Europe and preparing to build a factory to produce 5G equipment. Currently, there are several candidate target sites.
Huawei Chairman Liang Hua said today that Huawei has chosen France to build its first 5G manufacturing plant in Europe. Liang Hua said that in the first phase, Huawei will invest 200 million euros (about 217 million US dollars) in the factory, which can create about 500 jobs.
Liang Hua also said at the press conference: “The factory will supply the entire European market, not just the French market.” Liang Hua also said that Huawei has explained the relevant plans to the French government.
Currently, France is in the early stages of rolling out its 5G network, and no supplier has yet been selected. But Macron’s government has said it will give network equipment suppliers, including Huawei, a fair chance.
Liu Kang also said earlier this month that Huawei has been in Europe for 20 years since it invested in establishing an R&D center in Sweden. In the future, Huawei hopes to integrate more closely into Europe.
Viviane Reding, the former vice-president of the European Commission, believes that Huawei’s construction of a factory in Europe to produce 5G equipment will significantly boost European confidence in Huawei’s products.
