BMW’s next-generation 7-Series car will include a purely electric version, it is reported.
The automaker announced in a news release that future 7-Series vehicles will be available in four versions: a gasoline engine, a diesel engine, a plug-in hybrid, and an all-electric vehicle. Oliver Zipse, chairman of BMW’s board of directors, also said that the pure electric version will be the most powerful of the four models.
Zipse said BMW’s long-term goal is for different drive technologies to coexist. By 2023, the company hopes to be able to offer 25 electric vehicles, possibly including an electrified 7 Series.
The all-electric version of the 7 Series will feature BMW’s fifth-generation electric technology, the same one that will power the i4, the report said. There’s no firm launch date for the next-generation 7-Series, and we’ll probably have to wait a few more years.
